The Inspiration for my Creativity:
At seventy years old, I have seen a lot of life. This journey has taken me in many creative directions.

At nine years old, my parents took me and my brother to Washington, DC, less than 6 months after the Kennedy assassination. This trip served to fuel my interest in history and politics. An interest that pushed me toward persuasive writing, something that I have often done as a volunteer columnist for our local newspaper.

I was twelve when I formed my first band, performing at Jr. High school dances. That love of music has remained strong my entire life. While taking part in several bands, my first love was the acoustic 12-string guitar, which formed the basis for my creative writing. In the early 2000s, as my income rose and the cost of home recording equipment came down, I was finally able to pursue my dream of having my songs recorded.
One of the side benefits of this home studio was that it allowed me to dabble with songs I had always loved to sing. I could hear my studio-polished voice singing these songs by downloading a backing track and adding my lead vocal. I dubbed the process “Daveoke!”
As with many boys my age, high school was a period marked by young love and heartbreak. This was the inspiration for many of my songs, which revolve around (as I like to call it) the affairs of the heart.
After graduating from high school, I experienced a seminal event in my life: a full-blown episode of Manic Depression (Bi-polar), something I would deal with on and off for 6 years until I finally relented and commenced taking Lithium (which I do to this day). This experience enormously impacted my writing, pushing me towards a more philosophical vein.

It was the love of a wonderful woman and her family of 8 kids that I married into that saved my life. She was the one who convinced me to start taking Lithium, without which I’m sure I wouldn’t be here to write this. Our marriage lasted 38 years until she died in 2016. Over those years, of the many hobbies I pursued, I learned to train my camera’s eye on compelling scenes and composition.

In 2018, I met and later married the most amazing woman, who has given me the courage to share my creativity with the world.
